Diego Velazquez
Diego Velázquez was one of the most important painters of the Spanish Baroque period, born in 1599 and died in 1660. Recognized for his technical mastery and ability to portray everyday life, Velázquez is best known for his works at the Spanish royal court. His most famous painting, “Las Meninas,” is acclaimed as one of the greatest achievements in the history of Spanish art.
Velázquez was known for his exceptional ability to capture the essence of his sitters, as well as for his innovative painting technique. He served as a court painter to King Philip IV of Spain for many years, gaining recognition and prestige during his time at the royal court. In addition to his masterpieces portraying the Spanish nobility, Velázquez also produced a series of portraits and genre scenes that captured everyday life with remarkable accuracy.
